Nog maar net bekomen van "Young Fool" Phil Minissale of er duikt met Sam Hare - one of the leading talents of the British blues scene - (cfr : BBC Radio) opnieuw een kandidaat op die met zijn debuutalbum "Down To the Sea" ongetwijfeld furore gaat maken in de Euro Americana Charts ! Voor de fans van Matt Schofield maar voornamelijk Ian Siegal, en dat zijn er in onze contreien behoorlijk wat, moet de naam Sam Hare ongetwijfeld een belletje doen rinkelen.... ondermeer op de albums  "Dust"  (songs / "The Good Home" en I'll Fly Away") en "Broadside"  (song / "Stealing From The Queen")  is Sam with singing / playing / writing contributions van de partij. Bovendien blijkt de man ook nog een uitstekend freelance fotograaf te zijn die uitstekend werk verricht voor ondermeer diezelfde Siegal (album "Meat & Potatoes") , Jools Holland, Chris Rea, Jimmy Vaughan, Jack Bruce, Hubert Sumlin & Pinetop Perkins. Met het album ""Down To the Sea" staat de man uit London eindelijk zelf 'in the picture' al neemt hij uitgebreid zijn tijd om zijn band Soul Junction  - features brother Fergus Hare on bass, Joe Glossop (!), Hammond organ, Wurlitzer, piano en  Mimi Hajime, drums  aan ons voor te stellen. Een prima onderneming, zo blijkt na slechts één enkele luisterbeurt en wordt het vrij snel duidelijk dat Sam Hare "Gives You Everything" wat jouw en mijn  hartje begeert .... blues, yes, country, definitely, soul, absolutely !!!

De openingstrack "Stealing From The Queen"  en "Are you Sorry Too" hebben duidelijke British Sixties  / Steve Winwood / Procol Harum invloeden,  "You Just Bring Me Water" en "The Bridge - send word from me " zijn ongetwijfeld  klassiekers in wording,  "Her Time of Day" kan uitgroeien tot een heuse Radio 1 hit, de Jerry Jeff Walker klassieker "Mr. Bojangles" krijgt van Joe Glossop een schitterend instrumentaal Hammond C 3 jasje aangemeten, prijkt "One More Chance" ( co - writer Ian Siegal) binnen de kortste keren op de playlist van Dr. John  en wordt het met "Home Grown Man" , "Blue - Eyed Boy"  en het fantastische "Moving Through Georgia " waarom de Britse pers "Down to the Sea"  beschouwt als an appealing slice of Blues meets Country Americana!  A must have cd, verplichte aanschaf.
